Greg Lloyd
I am a specialist employment lawyer with over 20 years experience helping workers and employers resolve employment relationship problems.
About me
Before becoming a lawyer in 2001 I spent 15 years working in a variety of industries, including the military, factories, warehouses, hospitality, retail and construction. My understanding of workplaces comes from being a worker, not just a lawyer.
For most of my legal career I have worked as a trade union lawyer. I have worked for the NZ Council of Trade Unions, the National Distribution Union (now First Union), the Public Services Association and as General Counsel for the NZ Amalgamated Engineering Printing & Manufacturing Union (now E tū Inc.). I have also worked for a provincial law firm and as a prosecutor for the Department of Labour (now MBIE). I have been an independent barrister for about 7 years.
I am an experienced litigator and over the years I have represented clients in mediation, the Employment Relations Authority, Employment Court, Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court, as well as a number of other Courts and Tribunals.
I believe strongly in the importance of community based legal services. For many years I have worked closely with Community Law Centres as a volunteer, providing free legal advice.

I have represented clients in a range of cases, including:
-
Personal grievances
-
Human rights / discrimination
-
Migrant exploitation
-
Employment agreement disputes
-
Workplace health and safety
-
Wage arrears claims
-
Breaches of good faith
-
Holiday pay disputes
-
Statutory compliance
-
ACC claims
-
Immigration
-
Restraint of trade
For most of my legal career I have acted for workers and unions so I know how important good employment practices are. That is why I also offer a range of services to employers, especially small employers and not for profit organisations, because I know proper legal support at an early stage can save money, improve workplace relationships and avoid unnecessary disputes further down the track.

I am an approved legal aid provider for employment cases.
