For Unions

With many years experience as a union lawyer I understand the important role the law can play in the life of the union.

I have been involved in a number important and complex cases against often large and well-resourced employers.

With any given issue there are a number of factors involved and the law is only one of them. I know that getting bogged down in litigation can often be counterproductive even when a case is strong. But I also know that it is vitally important to understand the legal issues and that sometimes it is necessary to use the legal process to achieve the best outcomes.

I can offer effective, appropriate and affordable legal support for your union and will work with you to identify all the issues and find the best solutions to achieve the best outcomes.

The services I provide to unions include:

  • Providing an assessment and initial legal opinion

  • Representation in disputes about the interpretation of employment agreements, bargaining, breaches of good faith, strikes and lockouts and more

  • Representing union members in personal grievance claims

  • Compliance assessment – helping you ensure you meet all your legal obligations as a registered trade union, incorporated society and an employer.

  • Document preparation, including preparing top quality template documents that comply with all legal requirements and make your job much easier.

    • e.g. personal grievance letters, strike notices (essential and non-essential services), strike ballots, Official Information Act requests, and Parliamentary submissions

  • Training courses – Fundamentals of employment law every union official needs to know.
